Peninsula Cricket Company's Bat Preparation Service puts your new bat through two coats of raw linseed oil, then an extensive "knocking in" process.

Our state of the art "knocking in machines" replaces the job of the bat mallet, speeding up the time till your new bat is ready to use.

Peninsula Cricket Company's Bat Prep Service will leave your new bat ready to go straight into throw downs with used cricket balls.

We strongly suggest the avoidance of jug balls, composition balls, new balls or "cheap" balls on any new bat.

After at least an hour of this, and no signs of seam marks or surface cracking, we recommend at least six net sessions, using old balls, before progressing to full “new ball” sessions or match play.

Care information

LOOKING AFTER A PENINSULA CRICKET CO. BAT

OILING:

Oiling is a key part of ensuring the longevity of your cricket bat. It seals the existing moisture inside your bat and stops it from becoming too dry. It prevents the bat from cracking, splitting and/or breaking. Raw linseed oil is the only oil that should be used. Apply a teaspoon of oil onto your bat, rub the oil all over the blade of the bat using your hand or a dry cloth - avoid the handle and splice. Once the oil is rubbed in simply wipe the excess oil off using a dry rag.

We suggest oiling a cricket bat immediately after purchase.

KNOCKING IN:

Knocking in your newly purchased cricket bat is a hell of a job, but essential to the performance and longevity of your new bat. You will need to purchase a knocking in mallet to perform this critical process.

With your mallet start by gently tapping your cricket bat from the toe of the bat all the way up to the splice. You will need to do this process for around 2 hours, slowly striking the bat harder and harder as you go on.

You may start to see little dents in the bat as you hold it up to the light, this is not an issue,  continue working all parts of the blade until all dents are levelled out. Once you have levelled the dents on the blade and have been hitting your bat with the mallet for over 2 hours, you can move to hitting catches or light throw downs with old cricket balls.

Once you have completed around an hour of catches and light throw downs, move on to some harder throw downs in the nets. Keep checking your bat for cricket ball seam marks, if seam marks have appeared you will need to wind it back to the mallet for further knocking in.

Once you have completed around an hour of throw downs, and there is no seam marks on your bat, you can move to facing bowling with old balls. We recommend a good six net sessions with old balls.

If no seam marks appear you are right to go and the bat is ready to use.

PROTECTIVE FACING:

Extratec or antiscuff sheeting is a great way to protect the face of your cricket bat. The plastic facing helps reduce cracks and splits in the face of your cricket bat.

SERVICING YOUR BAT (OVERHAUL):

Peninsula Cricket Co. highly recommend getting your bat "Overhauled" after every cricket season. Any damage done can be repaired and the bat will come back looking good as new.

By servicing your bat each year you will extend the life of your cricket bat.

Warranty

Cricket bats are natural products. This means that there is a chance that your Peninsula Cricket Co. bat could break.

We will always do our best to ensure you receive a bat that will last a long time, but wood is wood and any bat has the chance of having it's issues. Cricket bats can break for all sorts of reason in a lot of different ways. Most of the time the bat can be fixed. We cannot replace Peninsula Cricket Co. products if they have:

1. Been damaged as a result of regular wear and tear

2. Been wrongly used, treated badly, or that have been repaired or modified by a third party.

3. Become damaged through bad shots or have failed as a result of poor preparation and care. This includes most yorker damage.

All warranty claims on bats produced by Peninsula Cricket Co., made within 12 months of purchase, and within the scope of our warranty will be repaired for free if required. Shipping cost each way is extra. If the bat cannot be repaired, a replacement of the same value will be issued. Upgrades are not available in warranty cases.

Replacement bats are under warranty for the period of 12 months from the original purchase, not from the date of issuing the replacement. If the bat is replaced within the last three months of the warranty period a period of three months will be added to the warranty starting from the date the new bat is issued.

Inaccurate play: If a false shot is played which makes damage to the sides, back, shoulders, toe or other areas of the bat, this will be deemed outside the scope of the warranty. This includes damage from carrying in bags, banging on the ground etc. Whilst we'd love to repair or replace every bat, Peninsula Cricket Co.'s decision is final on inaccurate play warranty claims.

In general cricket bats will be repaired at least once before a replacement or credit is given.

NO STICKERS, NO WARRANTY. If you request a Peninsula Cricket Co. bat without Peninsula Cricket Co. stickers it will not come with a warranty. If stickers are removed from a Peninsula Cricket Co. bat warranty will be void. No exceptions.
